Many software titles have been released for the Macintosh line of computers since its
introduction in 1984, but there are three that come to mind when I think of the most important
to the history of the Mac, because they really started the desktop publishing revolution which
made the Mac famous:
MacDraw MacPaint The titles that are the next most importat in the history of Mac software are the multitudes of shareware titles that programmers have released in the last fifteen years (yes, it's really been that long).
Over the last year, I have scoured the internet trying to collect as much shareware and freeware as I could find to place on this site. I would love to be able to supply all Classic Mac users with some of the earlier commercial software for the Mac, but that is not legally possible, so you are on your own to try to find much of this software. I would also love to be able to provide you with all of the freeware and shareware that I have been able to collect, but I just don't have the disk space on my Internet Service Provider's server to do that, so I'm going to have to wish you happy hunting, but to help you along the way I have compiled the following list of my favorite sites to download software for every single one of my Classic Macs:
Mac68kGames MacFreewares Classic Mac - "Fight Back For Old Macs" MacDownload.com Macs.Bon.Net Mac's Diner emulation.net Ambrosia Software Networkable Mac Games TUCOWS Macintosh
If you are looking for software to get your Classic Mac on the internet, go to The Mac 512 User Group and join, then stop by its Software section and look for the System 6 Internet Package (even if you have a newer version of System Software than System 6 you will still be able to use it). If you need to figure out how to set up and configure the Internet software once you have downloaded it, try the Connecting to the Internet section of this site. I also highly suggest that you visit JAG's House for more information on setting up your Classic Mac to use the Internet and for his Internet software installer. Classic Macintosh Computing also has some very useful installers for Internet software, so check it out too.
