Transfer files over a mull modem-
Q. Can I trasnfer files from a PC to a Mac?
A. To get a Macintosh file from a PC to a Mac by using a null modem:
Get a file in the .hqx or .bin format
Hook the PC up to the Mac with a null modem.
Pick up a PC serial/modem cable, a Macintosh serial/modem cable and a null modem. My null modem has 25 pins.
Use a terminal application (MacTerminal or ZTerm on the Macintosh and HyperTerminal on the PC)
Get them to talk to each other without dialing a number for a connection. (half duplex)
You will know it is working as what you type on one screen will appear on the other screen.
Start the file transfer. If you are using the Zmodem protocol, it will start receiving automatically on the other end.
Creating disk images from a PC-
Q. I need to create your disk images on my PC so I can get my classic Mac working.
A. See "If you are using a PC..." section
Convert documents from a Mac 512K to a Pentium PC-
Q. Do you know if there is a program where I could convert docs made with my old mac 512 into something my newer Pentium PC will read (text file, Microsoft Word 6.0 or 97, etc.)? I've tried saving my mac doc as a text file, but my PC won't read anything on my mac floppy!
A. PCs cannot read Mac formatted disks, they lack the software to support it. Fortunately there is some available around $99.00 at MacWarehouse or MacConnection. (See the advertisements in MacWorld for phone numbers.)
You have two ways:
Way 1- Use a newer Macintosh to help with the conversion
Take the disk with the Mac text document, to another Macintosh that is new enough to have a 1.44 3 1/2" disk drive.
Copy the Mac text document to the hard drive.
Format a HD diskette as a MS-DOS formatted diskette.
Copy the Mac text document to the MS-DOS formatted diskette.
Let your PC read it into the application you want. (It must be able to convert a Macintosh text document)
Way 2- Use a PC to read the Mac formatted diskette
Purchase a program that will allow your PC to read/write to Mac formatted diskettes.
Let your PC read it into the application you want. (It must be able to convert a Macintosh text document)
