Exchanging documents with drones
You can read and write DOS disks using third party control panels
like AccessPC and DosMounter. In order to open and create DOS/windows
compatible documents you need software that can. The System 6
compatible word processor MS Word 5.1 e.g. is able to read and
to a lesser extent save a number of (older) DOS/Windows word processing
formats. MacWrite II and ClarisWorks and MS Excel also contain
conversion modules. In casu ClarisWorks and Excel you are also
able to convert some spreadsheet, database formats. ClarisWorks
and other graphic programs allow you to convert a number of graphics
formats
Another great utility is MacLink. Version 8 is the last one that
is system 6 compatible.
A limited but good format for exchanging documents between various
platforms is Rich Text Format (RTF).
Connecting a System 6 Mac to a Wintel Network
If you want to connect your system 6 Mac to a Wintel network using
the appletalk protocol, you'll need to do two things:
1. You'll have to make your system 6 Mac compatible with the Appletalk
Filesharing used by a server from the Dark Side, like Windows
2000 services for the Mac. In order to do this, you'll need to
install Network Software installer 1.4.5 (AppleTalk (58.1.4),
and then either install AppleShare
for Workstations 3.5 or swap the AppleShare INIT of system
6 for the AppleShare extension of System 7.0.1. Note: this won't
work with multifinder.
