MPW Distribution—Contents

Apple has now decided to give MPW away for downloading for free. Here’s what’s available for downloading:

The MPW integrated Shell/Editor, with built-in Projector source-code control.
ToolServer, which is a cut-down version of the MPW Shell without the editing or source-code-control functions. This can be used to execute shell scripts in the background, with communication via AppleEvents.
SourceServer, which is an extract of the source-code-control part of the MPW Shell. This can be used to manage software projects with communication via AppleEvents.
Standard tools, including linker, librarian, Make, Symantec C and C++ compilers for 68K, Apple’s “Mr C” C and C++ compilers for PowerPC, assemblers for 68K and PowerPC, resource compiler and decompiler, and a range of file-manipulation utilities.
Source-level debuggers: SADE, SourceBug and the Macintosh Debugger (both 68K and PowerPC).
Documentation for using MPW, the compilers and assemblers, the debuggers, and other information.
Standard MacOS API interfaces (C, Pascal, Assembler and Rez) and libraries.
Examples for building C, C++ and assembly-language programs, plus how to build code fragments and HyperCard externals, and how to use ToolServer and Projector.
Other goodies: the “MPW” font, and “MPButtons” and “PopupFuncs” add-ins.
