Notes| The Workgroup Server 8150 is functionally equivalent to the Power Macintosh 8100/80 with regards to expandability. | The Power Macintosh 8100 operates in 32 bit mode only and cannot be toggled back to 24 bit mode. SIMMs must be installed in pairs of the same size. Failure to do so will result in the Power Macintosh thinking that both SIMMs are of the higher density. System crashes are possible in this situation. The Power Macintosh 8100/110 is identical to the 8100/80 with the exception of a 110Mhz PowerPC 601 microprocessor. VRAM Information | Utilizing the HDI-45 connector on the back of the 8100/80, the following video modes are available:

The VRAM Expansion PDS Card adds a second monitor output and 1 MB of 32-bit video random-access memory (VRAM) separate from system RAM on a Power Macintosh 7100/66, and 2 MB of 32-bit VRAM on a 8100/80. Monitor output is a standard DB-15 socket.VRAM may be expanded to 2 MB on a Power Macintosh 7100/66 and 4 MB on a Power Macintosh 8100/80 by inserting four 68-pin, 80 ns SIMMs in connectors on the VRAM Expansion card. SIMMs for both VRAM expansion cards have the same pin assignments and external dimensions. However, SIMMs for the card in the Power Macintosh 7100/66 are loaded with two chips, each storing 128K by 8 bits; SIMMs for the card in the Power Macintosh 8100/80 are loaded with four chips, each storing 256K by 4 bits. Utilizing the AV Video Card for Power Macintosh 6100/60, 7100/66, 8100/80, the following video modes are available: Graphics --- Mixed --- Monitor Resolution Only Graphics Video ------- ---------- ---- -------- ----- 12-inch RGB 512 X 384 24 24 16 12-inch Mono 640 X 480 8 8 8 13 or 14-inch RGB 640 X 480 24 16 16 VGA 640 X 480 24 16 16 15-inch Portrait 640 X 870 8 8 8 16-inch RGB 832 X 624 24 16 16 19-inch RGB 1024 X 768 16 8 8 21-inch RGB 1152 X 870 16 8 8 SuperVGA 800 X 600 24 16 16 NTSC 512 X 384 24 16 16 NTSC 640 X 480 24 16 16 NTSC flicker-free 640 X 480 16 n.a.* n.a.* PAL 768 X 576 24 16 16 PAL flicker-free 768 X 576 16 n.a.* n.a.** NTSC and PAL monitors cannot display video when set to flicker-free format. |
