The PowerBook 1400 ships with a minimum of 12 MB of low-power DRAM. You can expand the memory to a total of 64 MB using TSOP low-profile RAM chips rated at 70 ns or faster.

DRAM Configurations
12 MBThe PowerBook 1400 minimum configuration has 8 MB of factory DRAM and a 4 MB RAM card in the customer RAM slot.
16 MBThe 16 MB configuration has 8 MB of customer DRAM and an 8 MB RAM card in the factory RAM slot.
24 MBUpgrade the 16 MB configuration by installing an 8 MB RAM card in the customer RAM slot.
32 MBUpgrade the 16 MB configuration by installing two 8 MB RAM cards in the customer RAM slot.

NOTE: Apple does not supply 32 MB PSRAM Expansion Cards; however, they are available from third-party vendors.
NOTE: A minimum of 16 MB RAM is provided in PowerBooks 1400c/133, 1400c/166, and 1400cs/166.
