Just Updated 7/22/2000 Well I guess you all have seen the new Macs by now. If not then go visit Apples web site and check them out! Me and my wife really like the G4 Cube :) we would get one right now if we had the money :( Also the new keyboard and mouse are welcome upgrades! OS 9 and the Geo modem: I got an overwhelming response to the TIL I posted last week on OS 9 not being supported in OS 9. It seems many users have their Geo modems working fine but you cannot access the Express Modem control panel unless you hold the CMND-CNTL keys while opening the control panel. Also it seems that a clean install of the telecom software and maybe even OS 9 is in order to make the Geo work better? MIDI still won't work so don't expect OS 9 to fix this issue :( I even tried the Geo modem on my 6400 last night with OS 9.0.4 installed and it worked. My COX cable connection dropped so I decided to fire up the Geo :) I wanted to try faxing and the Apple Phone software before I posted this but I didn't have the time. Some people have told me they work and I will try by next week. Plugging headphones in/out to fix 6400 freezes, update: Well I have gotten a few replies stating this is helping people unfreeze their 6400's. Now if we could only find out why this works? 3DFX Gamers Mac page: Here is a link to the Gamers site on Mac info for Voodoo gaming. I thought all you gamers would appreciate this :) New Farallon drivers for the 10/100 PCI and COMM II ethernet cards: Here is a link to get the latest drivers (2.2.1 for PCI and COMM II 10/100 cards). I don't know what they changed though? Request for place to purchase Apple stock 10bT COMM II card: Kin is looking for the stock 10BaseT COMM II card that came with some 6360/6400/6500's. If you know where to get one, can you please email her. Thanks [I'm looking for a source to buy an ethernet card to fit into the comm slot II of my 6360. I know Farallon makes a 10/100 card but I was hoping to find a less expensive one perhaps the 10/BT from Apple. Using the Airports 56k modem with a 6400 connected via Ethernet cable?: I have a request from a reader who wants to know if anyone has tried to use the 56k internal modem on the airport base station connected to a 6400 via ethernet cable for online access? The TIL I have posted below says it should work but I was just wondering if anyone has tried yet :) Thanks. Voodoo5 PCI in a 6400/6500?: Tiong has sent me some pics, which I need to scan, of a Voodoo5 AGP card lined up over the 6500's PCI slots to see if it would fit. It is a full length card and does get in the way of the ribbon cables deep within the case but it might just fit? I will have pics posted next update hopefully. Would be nice if our 6400/6500's are fast enough to utilize the Voodoo5 :) Extreme cooling of the 6400!: I got this letter from Richard who has a floor standing air-conditioned aimed at his 6400 with the covers off. He has gotten down to 7C degrees according to GuagePro! Wow, that's cold. I wonder what the room temp is in his place :) Thanks for the info Richard. [-Performa 6400/180 136MB, Sonnet 300/1MB overclocked to 320Mhz/160Mhz (tightened heatsink), OS 8.6, 13GB 5400rpm IDE, 4.5GB 7200rpm SCSI drive (overheats bigtime), Xclaim VR 128 w/TV graphics hooked up to 34" Sony Trinitron via S-video, 2 -17" monitors (Apple 1705/Mag 17") @home Cablemodem/Ethernet w/8-port Asante hub/Airport for iBook and my Windoze laptop via Lucent/Orionoco Silver WaveLan card. Performa is server for all computers (PC's via PCMACLAN pro) It has the following external SCSI devices: ZIP-100, Smart & Friendly CD Speedwriter plus, UMAX UC630 3-pass color scanner (lol) - I have 4-printers connected via switchbox: -Epson stylus 600, HP Deskwriter 540, Apple Stylewriter 4500, and a Stylewriter 2400. ADB Devices: Apple keyboard/mouse, Kensington Turbomouse, CH Gamepad, Gravis Mousestick. I have the original 28.8 Teleport V modem and am using the Asante 10/100 PCI ethernet card. As you can see my Performa is Maxed Out!
Could Gauge Pro be reading incorrectly? But he does have a 3" to 4" fan blowing out the side of the case and with the covers removed and the airconditioner aimed at it, who knows? Would have been nice to have this thing when I was experimenting with clocking my stock 603e CPU :)

CD containing the 6400 Zone plus past history for sale 9/3/1999
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in purchasing a CD with my entire up-to-date site as well as my 6400 Take Apart manual plus many of the past Just Updates included? I think this would be a great idea for anyone who hasn't been able to keep up or never saw my site until recently. Also for those of you with Sherlock the CD is even better cause you can tell Sherlock to index the CD and then you can do a search on any topic and if I ever talked about it, you'll find it! I have info as far back as mid 1997. I'm asking $15 which includes shipping for US residents (not sure what the price for international shipments would be yet?) and I will even include a few surprises! To make this offer even juicier I can add some download that you've been trying to get but just couldn't for some reason. Lets put my cable modem to work :)

Link to my site that gets rid of AOL's ads! 9/16/98
Jeff did some digging in to the new code that displays the frames on my site with AOL ads and found a link that can be used which will not show those annoying ads. Here is the address. http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/TMK12v/home.html
Thanks Jeff, for sending this info. PS don't let AOL find out :)
Here's an even better link http://members.aol.com/zone6400 I like this one better :)
The 6400 Zone is created to help you gain access to useful software updates and great shareware programs that add functionality to your system. It is also a one stop road map to other informative sites for answering your questions. Most of the info here is geared towards the 6400, but it is useful for all PCI Performa models and even the 6500 and all-in-one Macs based on the same. It's even useful to other MAC systems. I will be referring to my 6400/200 clocked to 220Mhz as just 6400/220, OK.
I will keep it updated as often as I can but I don't have much free time to work on it, so I suggest you check back at least once a week. That should be sufficient. If you don't see something you would like to see here or have your own software / web site that would benefit the MAC community, please write to me at TMK12v@aol.com and I will check it out.
I use a Performa 6400/180 OS 9.0.4, Performa 6400/220 OS 8.6, B&W G3/350 OS 8.6, PowerBook G3/233 OS 9.0.4, PM 6100 G3/240 OS 9.0.4, and a PowerBook DUO 270c OS 7.5.5. All of the software updates posted here are currently running on one or the other with minimal problems. If I do encounter a problem, I will post it for all to read and respond to. If you are having any problems and would like help just email me and if I can answer it I will, or I will post it here for others to read and respond to.
