Confirmation that USB audio out devices do fix audio stuttering!: Kirschen and Scott both wrote to say that audio out from the iMic does not have stuttering problems like the stock audio out has. Thanks guys.

Just got my brand new iMic - plugged it into the third USB port of my OrangeMicro OrangeLink+ USB/Firewire combo board. Works fine with no stuttering at all! Floppy drive works fine. My current setup is:
Performa 6400/180 with 136MB RAM, Sonnet Crescendo L2 Cache G3 400MHz/1MB Cache. OrangeLink+ USB/Firewire. ATI Rage Orion (16MB VRAM). Farallon Comm Slot II 10/100 BaseT Ethernet. Mac OS 9.1

[The iMic works!! The CD Player app didn't work. I guess some of the older apps are "dumb" when it comes to digital audio. Quicktime movies play smoothly.

iTunes worked great, as did Quicktime. From what I can remember, I think the startup chime came from the machine but once the system was loaded all the sound came through the speakers.

Its possible that older apps like Apples CD Audio Player do not recognize the USB drivers for audio output? Also the CD Audio Player does not gets its input from a digital source. It actually gets its input from the audio cable off the back of the CDROM drive. iTunes however takes the data off the CDROM over the SCSI bus and then will either play it out your stock speakers or through a USB audio out device if you have one. So it seems we have a cure for those with some money to spend on a USB card and USB audio out devices :(

6500 G4 mother board mod!: Well, Adam took a 6500 to the extreme or downgraded a Gigabit G4 depending on how you look at it :) He sandwiched a G4 mother board inside a 6500 case. Check out the link below for all the details. Thanks Adam.

Sonic System ethernet card in a 6400: Alec sent me some info on an older ethernet card made by Sonic System. He says it works fine for him with at least OS 8.1. Thanks Alec. He sent me the driver incase anyone needs it so email me if you do :)

Seeing you are recording ethernet card info, both of the 6400's here have Sonic Systems Inc PCI 10 cards in and they work without problems under OS 8.1. One card is 10BaseT only while the other has 10BaseT and 10Base2 connectors. A small driver extension 'PCI-10 Ethernet' is needed for the cards to function. One of them is an ex-college machine (they now use all PC's) and they ran without problems on the network there using System 7.5.3.

OSX on a UMAX C500: Terry was able to install OSX on a C500 by first installing it on a Beige G3 and then moving the HD over to his C500. This is one theory I thought might work for the 6400/6500 and its good to hear it can work. Thanks Terry.

I too have had trouble installing OS X from the boot CD. What I finally did was install OS X using a Beige G3 and then simply moving the drive to my C500. Of course I have a minimal install of 9.1 on a very small partition and the 1st and largest partition has X. I am using the latest version of Xpostfacto to boot into X.

We are talking X.2.2 here. I have an old ATI Mach64 video card and a Realtek8139 based ethernet card in my 2 PCI slots. I am even using an old 12" monochrome Macintosh display. My C500 has a ZIFF based CPU slot with a 280Mhz. Mactell G3 card with 1MB L2 cache in it. I also have the maximum 144MB ram (16MB on the motherboard) in it.

I will try something similar with a similarly outfitted Umax C600 tonight. The C500 has been stable since I put X in it a couple of days ago.

PC SCSI card in a Mac: Tinman wrote to say he was able to use a cheap PC card on the Mac and it works except for booting. Thanks Tinman. Thierry also adds that you can use the PC version of the Adaptec 2940UW and flash it to work on the Mac. Thanks Thierry.

[Thought I would let you know that I am able to use an I will SCSI card made for the PC containing the Advansys 3030 SCSI chip on my Mac. It is an Ultra or Fast card and although the BIOS is not flashable and any drive connected to it is not bootable, using the drivers on http://www.initio.com/support/advdownload.htm, I am able to use the card on OS 9 and X. I think any other SCSI card containing the Advansys 3030 or 3050 chip will probably work. This would provide cheap faster SCSI for the 5500, 6400, 6500 and other PCI Macs.]

you can also use an Adaptec 2940UW card from the PC side. It will work on the Mac if you flash it with the 4.1 flasher utility.
