Just Updated 12/16/2002 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Sonnet updates drivers and lowers prices: Robert notified me that Sonnet Tech has updated the driver to 2.0.2 and lowered their prices on L2 G3's and are discontinuing the 400/512k version. Thanks Robert.
Using your 6400 as a print server for older local talk printers: Chris sent some info on how he setup his 6400 to run an older HP LaserJet and let other newer Macs without serial ports access it. Thanks Chris.
Just Updated 12/10/2002 Confirmation that USB audio out devices do fix audio stuttering!: Kirschen and Scott both wrote to say that audio out from the iMic does not have stuttering problems like the stock audio out has. Thanks guys.
Its possible that older apps like Apples CD Audio Player do not recognize the USB drivers for audio output? Also the CD Audio Player does not gets its input from a digital source. It actually gets its input from the audio cable off the back of the CDROM drive. iTunes however takes the data off the CDROM over the SCSI bus and then will either play it out your stock speakers or through a USB audio out device if you have one. So it seems we have a cure for those with some money to spend on a USB card and USB audio out devices :( 6500 G4 mother board mod!: Well, Adam took a 6500 to the extreme or downgraded a Gigabit G4 depending on how you look at it :) He sandwiched a G4 mother board inside a 6500 case. Check out the link below for all the details. Thanks Adam.
Sonic System ethernet card in a 6400: Alec sent me some info on an older ethernet card made by Sonic System. He says it works fine for him with at least OS 8.1. Thanks Alec. He sent me the driver incase anyone needs it so email me if you do :)
OSX on a UMAX C500: Terry was able to install OSX on a C500 by first installing it on a Beige G3 and then moving the HD over to his C500. This is one theory I thought might work for the 6400/6500 and its good to hear it can work. Thanks Terry.
PC SCSI card in a Mac: Tinman wrote to say he was able to use a cheap PC card on the Mac and it works except for booting. Thanks Tinman. Thierry also adds that you can use the PC version of the Adaptec 2940UW and flash it to work on the Mac. Thanks Thierry.

CD containing The 6400 Zone plus past history for sale 9/3/1999
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in purchasing a CD with my entire up-to-date site as well as my 6400 Take Apart Manual? Plus, many of the past Just Updates included! I think this would be a great idea for anyone who hasn't been able to keep up or never saw my site until recently. Also for those of you with Sherlock, the CD is even better cause you can tell Sherlock to index the CD and then you can do a search on any topic, and if I ever talked about it, you'll find it! I have info as far back as mid 1997. I'm asking $10 US which includes shipping, and I will even include a few surprises! To make this offer even juicier I can add some download that you've been trying to get but just couldn't for some reason. Lets put my cable modem to work :) I will accept money orders and personal checks but I won't mail out the CD till it clears. I can now accept credit cards through PayPal as well!
Amazon.com, books and more 7/2/98
I found a great way to earn some money while getting great deals to you on Macintosh books and software plus they have all kinds of other books, music, and more. Please click on the amazon.com link on the top of this page whenever you feel like purchasing something to help sponsor this site. If you're unsure of what you want and wish to get a list of Mac related items, just type Macintosh in the search field on their home page and you will be presented with many choices to select.
TW Computing Business sites 11/2/2002
This page lists TW Computings Business Account holders web sites. I am placing them here on my site for two reasons. Many people visit The 6400 Zone and some of you may be interested in the products or services that these businesses deal in. Second, The 6400 Zone is visited by many web crawlers or robots that scan the internet looking for new sites. By placing links to sites hosted by TW Computing here, I can help them increase their chance of getting listed on most popular search engines. I figure that's the least I can do since I own TW Computing and it hosts The 6400 Zone :)
The 6400 Zone is created to help you gain access to useful software updates and great shareware programs that add functionality to your system. It is also a one stop road map to other informative sites for answering your questions. Most of the info here is geared towards the 6400, but it is useful for all PCI Performa models and even the 6500 and all-in-one Macs based on the same. It's even useful to other Mac systems. I will be referring to my 6400/200 clocked to 220Mhz as just 6400/220, OK.
I will keep it updated as often as I can but I don't have much free time to work on it, so I suggest you check back at least once every other week. That should be sufficient. If you don't see something you would like to see here or have your own software / web site that would benefit the Mac community, please write to me at thomas@zone6400.com and I will check it out.
I use a Performa 6400/Vimage G3/320 OS 9.2.2, two B&W G4/500's OS 10.2.2 Server, iBook Dual USB OS 9.2.2 / OSX 10.2.2, PM 6100 G3/240 OS 9.1, Dual G4 800 OS 9.2.2/OSX 10.2.2, and a PowerBook DUO 270c OS 7.5.5. If I encounter any problems, I will post them for all to read and respond to. Likewise, if you are having any problems and would like help just email me and if I can answer it I will, or I will post it here for others to read and respond to.
If any of the links do not work properly, please send an email to me the Site Master
