Where can I get it?

What is in it?
This release implements our new software-based rendering acceleration approach. Details are available on another page.
Odd frame sizes (i.e. those not divisible by 16) are now supported. Sizes larger than full-screen (i.e. 648x486 in NTSC) are not supported and will fail during rendering.
Studio Player 2.7, which is PCI-only, is included, which now supports drag-and-drop under MacOS 7.6.1, and now returns to RGB after playback if you were using an RGB monitor before playback started.
There is a new ROM, version 1.2. The VideoVision PCI Setup control panel will automatically update your VideoVision ROM for you. This ROM adds support for VideoVision SP, and for the RGB Component Cable Kit.
The installer is now a single file with all components compressed within. It fits on one floppy disk.

What Macs is it compatible with?
Any color-capable Macintosh or compatible, although a 68040- or PowerPC-based machine is STRONGLY recommended. It IS compatible with the Apple PowerMac PDS card, unlike VideoVision Studio. It's even compatible with PowerBooks, and was tested in the 5300.
So why do I need a VideoVision Studio or Telecast?
SoftStudio plays back well below realtime on any existing Macintosh, which makes it impossible to use for general editing, capture or playback. There's a more complete list of reasons, if you're interested.
What's the difference between the 1.0 version I got at MacWorld and the 1.0.1 version on this site?
Version 1.0.1 supports quarter-screen movies made with VideoVision Studio versions 1.7 and earlier.
How is its performance compared to the hardware?
In terms of rendering speed, it seems to be faster than the hardware on any Power Mac faster than 80MHz, at least for a simple crossfade. On a Quadra it takes about six times as long as the hardware. Another page contains more detailed information about this.

Audio sync issues are currently being handled through documentation and close work with Adobe, as different solutions are known to work with different systems. An upcoming version of the Studio Player will tackle this problem in a more universal fashion. (There is no scheduled release date for that version.) A document is being refined and tested, and will appear on this server soon.
What about the Studio Player?
The Studio Player has not changed significantly from the 2.5 version, which is essentially the 2.0.1 version with Telecast triggering support and a few bug fixes, notably that the most common occurrences of Premiere's Work Area Snapshot errors have been eliminated.

You can get this from Apple, or from Premiere 4.0.1. VVS 2.0 is quite compatible with it -- the only change we've been asked to make is a fix for a disappearing cursor bug.

You can't. Its release was halted due to an annoying audio bug. A version 2.0.2 will be released shortly.
Do I need VideoVision Studio 2.0.1 for anything?
Not really. Premiere 4.0.1 and the Apple Multimedia Tuner 2.0.1 will behave about the same way with VVS 2.0 OR 2.0.1. The new Studio Player (126K) has some cool bug fixes and a minor new feature, and we are making that available now.
What was in VideoVision Studio 2.0.1?
There was a new version of Studio Player, now available; The Apple Multimedia Tuner 2.0.1 (also installed with Premiere 4.0.1); some now-redundant patches were removed; a new "Studio" panel added to the QuickTime standard Video Input dialog that features formerly difficult-to-find VideoVision Studio features; and some improved Premiere presets that are included with the Studio Player archive.
What changes were made for QuickTime 2.0 and the Multimedia Tuner 2.0.1?

It contains the VideoVision/VideoVision Studio 2.0 software, QuickTime 2.0, and the Studio Player and Modules 2.0.
With what versions of QuickTime is it compatible?
VVS 2.0 software includes QuickTime 2.0, but it is compatible with 1.6.1 or later.
With what versions of the hardware is the 2.0 software compatible?
All versions. The ROM upgrade is only required for use with Power Macintoshes, the VideoVision Studio 2.0 daughtercard, and some new monitors.
What is the difference in performance and behavior between QuickTime 2.0 and 1.6.1 with regard to VideoVision Studio?
Thre are many differences, but few of them are directly related to VVS.
What is included in Studio Player 2.0?
Improved audio sync, stop-and-step playback control from the keyboard, color bars, and support for more types of QuickTime composites, including printing to video directly from Premiere's Construction Window. This is also compatible with QuickTime 1.6.1 or later.
Does anything require QuickTime 2.0?
Unless an application requires it (such as Avid Videoshop 3.0), QuickTime 2.0 is not required for anything, including any version of the VideoVision Studio board, ROM or software.
When do I need the new ROM (version 1.3)?

How can I tell what version of the ROM I'm using?
Apart from looking for a small, socketed, and labeled chip on the board (under the Studio daughtercard if you have one), you can open either the Dynamic Desktop or RadiusWare control panel, and click "About..."
When do I need the full VideoVision Studio 2.0 Upgrade?
ONLY if you are ever going to use your VideoVision Studio in a Power Macintosh 8100/80.
